Prompt 22 – rain forests – for #WorldWatercolorMonth2019
Inspired by my visit in Tikal, Guatemala, a few years ago. First time for me in the jungle. We went on a sunrise morning tour around to Mayan ruins. I was still sleepy and had no idea what the guide wanted from me when he almost yelled at us to stay clear of the trees. A few moments after we saw and heard the poop droppings coming down like bombs. The monkeys clearly enjoyed their morning shit.
Yikes!

I am listening to the music of Mogwai – ‘The Sun Smells Too Loud. / Yes Being bombarded with flying monkey poop its another reason that I avoid trekking through tropical rain forests. The other reason would be having to wade through deep standing pools of water to cross to the other side and pick the tail back up again. I’ll give you a hint. It happened to Bogart in ‘African Queen’ and to the boys in the Movie ‘Stand By Me’. Ball sucking leaches oh there goes my phobia of parasites once again. The things people will do to get bit my mosquitoes, and poisoned by tree frogs. Thanks for sharing Mel 🙂

You went to Tikal? How nice. It’s one of my favourite Maya sites

Yes. It was amazing. Just after sunrise, all misty and rainy. It was an incredible experience. I also quite enjoyed Palenque in Mexico at the edge of the jungle. Different and stunning views.

And different architectural styles. Overall, I’ve only been disappointed once at a Maya site: Bonampak. The paintings are in a sorry state. Covered with calcium. The maintenance has been atrocious.
