Pelicans are a characterised by a long beak and a large throat pouch used for catching prey and draining water from the scooped-up contents before swallowing.
There are 8 different living pelican species. You can find them ranging latitudinally from the tropics to the temperate zone, though they are absent from interior South America and from polar regions and the open ocean.

Great sketch

Why this sudden “Pelican phase”?
(Has Mr Fox gone on holiday?)

Ah it started as a drawing exercise for a Graphic design course I was taking, and then I became obsessed with them .. 😛 😀

Pelicans in a Graphic design course? That is mind-blowing.

It was a creativity exercise. You could actually just pick anything, object or whatever. .. And then just draw it over and over again in different styles, materials etc. Great practice. Now I know how to draw a pelican by heart 😀

I can imagine. Though my favourite remains Mr. Fox.
(Just did a spider for a series of 3 sketches for my grandson’s Halloween… Suffered a bit. Until I found the right “model”)
