Try it. Jijé was a master Belgian comics artists who also trained many younger artists. One of his training tools was: “Look at the subject, don’t look at the paper. Let your hand draw.” With pencil of course. it does work. Obviously you have to look down at your paper from time to time, but it’s another feeling.

I can very well imagine. both the beginning and the end. Do you practice Jijé’s advice to look at the subject and draw without looking at your paper?
