Getting Out of the Comfort Zone

Hola, I am back! The family and I had escaped Iceland for a while to load up on as much vitamin D as possible. After an extensive road trip in Spain and a stop over in Switzerland I am all tanned, inspired and ready to get back to work!

Something a bit different to start with and that I have been working on this spring.

I had a creative block in January and an artist friend suggested to me to just try something completely different. An that I did. I bought a gouache set and a bunch of papers. The result is an almost finished picture book about the weather and some bad first gouache painting attempts.

I had a lot of fun with making paper-cut pictures and I am very happy with the result. I used gouache for the details. Here is a first peek. What do you think?

    1. Thank you. 🙂 I find gouache so hard to get into. Your sketches are brilliant. ❤ I really like your style. I watched numerous tutorials on youtube that make it look easy but I am definitely far from it. But I´ll keep on trying.

      1. Hi Mel, your work is awesome! But since you are watching demos maybe this one will interest you. This past spring I took an online class from Peggi Kroll Roberts that helped me with gouache, although she also used acrylic. The class was about placing figures into a landscape which I very much needed to understand. The bonus was watching Peggy use gouache during her demos. I have been using more paint and applying an average color in the background since taking the class and I like the results. Here is the link: https://blackridgeartistsschool.podia.com/checkout/cart
