I think I started to continue with my Mexico book because winter has officially arrived here. The mountains are white again and I miss the warmth.
At least I can have sunny drawings and hot whiskey to keep me warm! I still have about a third of my Mexico book to fill so I will have more of these coming …
I think it was my second day in Malinalco back in April, when we stopped at the shoemaker right next to the market. My friend needed to get one of his shoe soles fixed. It was this small room with 3 guys working behind the counter, shelves full of old shoes, and an old TV showing Dragonball Z.
The reasons for the few updates lately are that I simply did not have time to sit down and draw, and when I found time, then I was stuck with this watercolor painting.
I have been on it for more than a week now and still haven´t figured out the background… I ate a lot of ice cream in between too, to look for inspiration… still looking, so I will keep on eating until I find it.
I did this drawing way back at the beginning of April when I was staying in Mexico City at a friends place. Absolutely loved all the colours in CDMX.
This was my second attempt of sketching outside. It´s the backyard of my friends house, where I spent the afternoon sitting on the stairs while the sun was warming my feet.
I was sketching while watching a movie. This is the result. I think I will go get some ice cream tonight.
It has been sunny second day in a row! That´s when those ice cream cravings come up. At my new favourite ice cream parlour, conveniently just a 5 minute bike ride from home, the scoops are massive. Two are pretty much a meal. Bigger is better!
This actually could be me. I admit.
I found my sketch book again with the ice cream drawings I started at the beginning of the year. As I was bored and tired today – and had a sweet craving – I thought I add another one to it. I am also trying to draw and paint more loosely… so this was my evening exercise.
I feel like the girls are too focused on their ice cream to notice anything else around them.
Cockatoos… They just came together for no apparent reason.
Is this how an aerialist paints? Not sure. But maybe worth giving it a try.

Yes, flamingos! Jenna Gee aka The Sunshine Artist suggested me to draw flamingos, so I decided to have fun with flamingos as you can see.
I have about 20 pages left in my sketchbook which I would like to fill with aerial themed illustrations.

Never tried to paint like that, it might be quite a challenge though.
I felt like paying Malinalco a visit again. And I still want to fill my Mexico sketchbook to the end. So I will do this bit by bit.
I started this one a while ago and finally finished it. Back in April I stayed in Malinalco with my friend Mohsen, the poet. We left early one morning to catch the bus to Cuernavaca, when we met this guy, parked at the side of the road.
Same donkey that we met previously.
Let´s move to an exotic location! There have to be pelicans of course! That´s what I am thinking right now, looking at the grey clouds outside.

I remember those things on the playgrounds and never understood the full purpose of them. I am the one on the far right, desperately trying to get up. Or hanging on for dear life. It was always one or the other.
Which one are you?
I like to go for hikes. Unfortunately there are not that many trees here in Iceland to hang on.

First time I also used masking fluid. Made coloring in the background so much easier. Will definitely use it again.
I also finally went back to hoop class last night after several months break due to injury. It was great. It was like I never took a break except for being so tired afterwards that I went straight to bed. But hanging upside down in the air is the best!
I’ve tried doubles once at the hoop training. It was fun and challenging and everything but elegant.
We did not try this pose though. Neither is my back able to bend like that nor do I think I have the strength to hold someone by the feet. But mainly the back bending thing. 5 years of training improved my back bending somewhat, but I most certainly have no natural flexibility in that area.

I haven´t really done anything monochromatic since Inktober, as I usually love to use a lot of colour. But I actually equally enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the Inktober challenge again. Until then, I will focus on colour though.
Another prompt from #WorldWatercolorMonth. I turned the farm life into an Icelandic farm life.
At the end of spring, farmers will bring their sheep up into the mountains, where they will roam wild and free during the summer months. In the beginning of September farmers will go out and start gathering them again. This is called Réttir – the annual sheep round-up.
Revisited my furry creatures from the forest scene. I quite like them. I feel like they are the perfect mix of cute and creepy. What do you think?
At first I felt lost about what to do with the background. So a day later I added the yellow bubbles which was quite meditative.
