Chimpanzee Dog Watercolour Caran d'ache Melanie Franz

Someone got company

I really love how the chimpanzee turned out. He is my favourite so far! What do you think?

I had him on my pinterest board for a long time. I remember trying to draw him a year? / few years ago and it turned out all awkward and wrong. I need to see if I find the old sketch somewhere.

Anyway, good start for the day. Happy sunny weekend ahead!

And if you are still looking for some funny wall decor, check out my Etsy shop.

What are you up today?

Cannot keep myself from not drawing dogs. They are just too cute.

Have been drawing a lot of funny rabbits until late last night. Now I am paying the price by being over-tired. But why stop when you are having fun?

Pelicans are back

Yes, the pelican book is still on. It’s very much a work in progress. The manuscript is pretty much finished, and so is the storyboard. And I still like it, after 2 months of break, so that is a good sign.

The next step is to create the first proper illustrations. That’s on the agenda for tomorrow, so I can finally get started on that phase.

One of the reasons I’m doing these watercolour sketches at the moment is to loosen up a bit and explore different approaches until I find a style that feels right. I am also still set on ink and watercolour. Need to experiment more with it. But for now I love my Caran d’ache pencils. What do you think?

Desert Mouse

I really love the vibrance of these Caran d’ache Luminance pencils.

Day 6 of drawing random animals from my Pinterest board. What do you use for inspiration?

Coocoo

Not quite the sound a Lemur makes (what sounds do they make?) but still think it fits the sketch.

25min from start to finish. I am really enjoying this loose drawing with no strings attached. 20 years later I finally get the idea of having a sketchbook.

Fun with Watercolour

I am actually having a lot of fun with my sketchbook. First time in ages that I took out my watercolours as well.

Do you have a sketchbook? What is your favourite medium?

The Sleeping Giant

Watercolour and pencil illustration inspired by Kazuo Ishiguro´s book The Buried Giant and Iceland of course.

The weather today really invites to keep on sleeping. Enjoy your weekend!

Day 3 – Time

I painted the first thing that came to mind when I grabbed the paintbrush

. Time is not linear. Time also takes you one a journey…

Quick sketch, therefore forgive the sloppiness…

World Watercolor Month – Day 1 – Train

Happy weekend everyone! I am definitely late to the party. June came and left and I barely noticed that July had started. As I have been in a creative/ non drawing hole lately I thought I take up the challenge and jump in on World Watercolour Month. It might be a good way to develop a illustration routine again beside work.

I´ll follow the prompt list and focus on lose spontaneous watercolour illustrations to get back into a creative spirit. The goal is to try something new and maybe I will discover a new style along the way.

Who else is participating?
